[Description] NYC-based Japanese singer songwriter, SHIHORI, makes her first appearance at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 3 in New York City.

[Bio]
SHIHORI is one of the most prominent young music creators in Japan today.

She composes and sings for movies, games, TV commercials and TV anime, including world-famous anime, such as “FAIRY TAIL,” “The Irregular at Magic High School” and “Macross Frontier.”

Dozens of her songs have made it into the Japanese hit chart, Oricon Chart, and for 11 of them, SHIHORI has received Gold Disc Certification, having sold more than 100,000 CDs.

SHIHORI has written songs for some of Japan’s most famous contemporary artists, including Nana Mizuki, Momoiro Clover Z, and Shoko Nakagawa. She has collaborated with Kohei Tanaka (composer of anime “ONE PIECE”) and Yoko Kanno (composer of “Macross Frontier”).

Born in Nagoya, Japan, SHIHORI has no hearing in her left ear since birth while having a perfect pitch in her right ear by nature. Additionally, she also suffered from Asperger Syndrome.

She started singing at the age of 2 and writing original songs at 7 before starting to receive formal musical education. At the age of 9, SHIHORI began learning classical piano and was immediately enthralled by the piano sonatas by Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt. Her enthusiasm toward the elements of Baroque and Romantic has shaped her music she creates today.

At the age of 17, SHIHORI decided to become a singer in order to convey the messages of love and peace, and to make the world a better place. She made her first recording at the age of 18. She moved to Tokyo after winning the 1st prize at a vocal audition and started her professional career as a performing/recording singer and as a songwriter.

SHIHORI made her major debut from Anime music label Lantis in 2007. Since then, she has sung numerous Anime and video game songs. As a songwriter, she has provided over 100 songs to various well-known artists.

Mr. Muneo Wakamatsu, former CEO of Sony Music Artists, a legendary music producer, highly praised SHIHORI and commented, “Shihori is the biggest impact since Seiko Matsuda (Japanese legendary pop singer in the 80’s) and the genius since Yu-min, aka Yumi Matsutoya (Japanese legendary singer songwriter).” SHIHORI’s performance and voice are often described “to physically shake your heart.”

In January 2018, she moved to New York as part of her “Share the American Dream Project.”

SHIHORI has performed at venues all over Japan, as well as abroad, including the Otakon Festival in Baltimore, the Santa Fe JIN Festival and the Japan Festival in Vietnam. She has held her solo concerts at NY’s The Bitter End and Club Bonafide.

Her first EP, recorded in the U.S. and entitled “Angel in the Garden,” was released in September 2018. Her 1st and 2nd singles were released in summer of 2019.
