Yasuno Miyauchi presents ”a e i”, a new work designed specifically for 22 Boerum Place. “a e i” aims to explore collective singing as ritual, with an emphasis on the power of extended repetition. With spatial distribution and choreographed bodily movement, the work features an accompanying visual narrative—all with the goal of binding bodies, voices, and movement together into a site of radical perceptual experience.
[Yasuno Miyauchi]
Yasuno Miyauchi is a composer from Tokyo, Japan, whose work centers around the human voice and body. Her piece, “breath strati”, won Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica in 2008. In 2008, Yasuno formed the vocal choir, TSUMUGINE, winning first prize at the Experimental Sound, Art and Performance Festival, Tokyo Wonder Site. TSUMUGINE has performed actively since then, with her piece, “mimesis”, winning the JFC Composer Awards Prize in 2011.
