New York Dance Community Hosts Fundraiser Performance for Japanese Artist Miho Ryu
NEW YORK, NY — On Friday, June 12, 2026 at 8:00 PM, members of New York’s dance community will gather at Peridance Center for a special fundraising performance in support of Japanese dancer, choreographer, and teaching artist Miho Ryu, who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer in Tokyo.
Presented by The Next Stage Project, the evening will feature performances by The Next Stage Project, Kaori Hiwasa, Mayu Nakaya, Larga Vista Dance, Sara Pizzi, Vive and Company, Miguel Zapico, and works by Miho Ryu.

Miho Ryu is a New York based dancer, choreographer, and teaching artist originally from Tokyo, Japan. She has created and performed more than 100 works internationally across live performance, film, music video, and installation. After two decades of professional experience in Japan, Miho returned to New York in 2024, where her recent work has been presented at venues and festivals including The 92nd Street Y, Knj Theater, Martha Graham Studio Theater, Chez Bushwick, Dixon Place, and Arts On Site. She is currently a faculty member at Peridance Center, Ballet Hispánico School, and Steps on Broadway.
Earlier this year, during a visit to Tokyo, Miho was unexpectedly diagnosed with breast cancer and immediately began chemotherapy treatment in Japan. Following continued treatment and surgery planned for October, her goal is to return to New York and continue both her artistic career and medical care.
“Dance has been my language, my passion, my work, and my life itself,” says Miho Ryu.
The fundraiser performance was created to support Miho’s healing journey and help sustain her connection to New York’s artistic community during treatment and recovery.
